The brand new WeCreat Vista Laser Engraver is a game-changer in the world of crafting. At the time of this video, it’s still in the pre-release stage, but our friends at WeCreat asked us to share our thoughts, so they sent us one to evaluate. We always give our honest opinion, and this is no exception.
For those of you who have been here since our vinyl-cutting days, don’t worry, we haven’t given up on cutting machines! We’re enhancing the crafting experience with laser engravers that allow us to add a little more depth and dimensionality to our designs. With laser precision, you can etch, engrave, or cut designs with a wide variety of materials including paper, wood, MDF, some dark acrylics, cork, cardstock, leather, stainless steel, and even stone. Just a few years ago, laser engravers were out of reach for most crafters. But today, they’re more accessible than ever which opens up a whole new world of creative possibilities.
So, what’s the deal with WeCreat Vista? The first thing you’ll notice is the size of the VISTA. It’s visibly different from WeCreat’s original Vision laser engraving machine.
Vista is much more compact than VISION. That’s because VISION has an amazing self-raising platform that gives you vertical clearance for engraving thicker materials and large items. Some people complain that it’s a little hard for shorter people, like me, to work with. You either need a step stool or an adjustment height table. The smaller size of the VISTA fits on desktops and craft room tables a LOT easier.
But don’t let WeCreat Vista’s sleek design fool you. It’s still a very powerful 10 watt laser that’s totally capable of cutting and engraving intricate designs on various materials. Here’s another surprise. Vista might be small, but it has a whopping 16.3 by 11.4 inch work area, and can handle cutting wood up to 6 millimeters thick. That’s about a quarter of an inch, which is the thickest wood most crafters use in this category. We also learned the Vision auto-passthrough module will work with Vista. This will allow you to engrave or cut boards up to about 137 inches long. No other diode laser in the world can do that.
Vista has an all new integrated HD TopView camera that’s accurate to 1 millimeter which ensures very precise material scanning and alignment. This minimizes waste, and makes sure your designs appear exactly where you want them. Auto focus is a little different with VISTA. When you’re ready to focus, you actually leave the lid up and press refresh in the software. This allows the camera to take a picture and give you a visual of your material. You then press “auto measure” before starting the engraving or cutting process.
Let’s go ahead and talk about the elephant in the room – people like to engrave tumblers – you’re asking yourself – can WeCreat Vista engrave tumblers due to its compact size?
YES it can! WeCreat made something new for Vista. It’s called a “FlipLaser.” And this is something completely new that’s NEVER been done before. The laser head actually ROTATES up to 90 degrees. It helps simplify rotary engraving on cylindrical objects like tumblers. And yes, you can fit a 40 ounce Stanley Tumbler inside the workspace without using any risers. That’s because the flip laser turns sideways, so you don’t need the vertical clearance. Smart, right?
The latest version of WeCreat MakeIt software has a very cool 3D preview, so you can see your tumbler design in its full glory even before you start engraving. WeCreat’s software is a THOUSAND times more intuitive than LightBurn and makes creating a breeze, whether you’re a seasoned maker or just starting your creative journey. If you already have a design, simply upload, adjust the settings using one of the many material presets, and let Vista handle the rest.
And yes, Vista is the only desktop diode laser that is completely compatible with Lightburn. Trust me, if you’re a beginner, just don’t – at least not at first.
WeCreat Vista offers some new safety features, including the protective blue light filter shield that protects your eyes without goggles, for a safe engraving experience. Vista is an FDA Class 1 laser that’s completely enclosed with fire-retardant metal. And there is a new fire detection feature that we’ll talk about in a future video.
In addition to the standard 10 Watt diode laser module, there’s also a 2 Watt INFRARED laser module available. This adds a ton of other materials to the engraving list including various metals, some treated glass, and most plastic materials including acrylic. We don’t have it yet, but will definitely try it soon.
